The 2021 Great Lakes Herb Faire will be a two and a half day virtual event taking place September 10th - 12th. This event is dedicated to the sharing of herbal knowledge and the celebration of our community and bioregion. We will have several speakers primarily from around the Great Lakes with a sprinkling of herbalists from non-Great Lakes states. Our intention is to empower knowledgeable herbalists and beginners alike, provide a space for networking and sharing knowledge, and to strengthen our regional herbal community.
Under normal circumstances, the Faire is a joyous gathering in Chelsea, Michigan (near Ann Arbor) at the beautiful, rustic, Cedar Lake Outdoor Center which is located at 2500 Pierce Road in Chelsea, Michigan. Click here for a map.
About The Virtual Event
We will be hosting a live meeting room, including several smaller breakout sessions, where you can catch up with friends, discuss classes, share meals, or simply enjoy the camaraderie. A Faire staff member will always be on hand to moderate classes, answer questions or help with technical issues.
There will be eight class sessions, one keynote presentation, and an opening and closing ceremony. Some of these will be live, while others will be pre-recorded. There will be opportunity to interact and ask questions during these sessions; for some of the pre-recorded classes, the instructor will be present in the chat.
There will be entertainment – likely live music - on Saturday evening that we can all tune into together. Hold a dance party in your home!
There is a separate intensive offered on Friday morning before the Faire officially begins. Ellen Kamhi will be speaking on “Cycles of Life – Herbs and Energy Techniques for the Stages of a Woman’s Life."
Classes will be available to watch for two weeks after the close of the Faire.
Our last physical gathering took place in 2019, at the 5th annual Faire. An incredible sense of community was able to be palpated through the weekend, growing friendships and connections that are lasting the year round. We are so looking forward to doing this again, bringing herbalists from the area and some from farther away together! The feedback we received from people who attended was overwhelmingly positive. People were excited to network and meet other herbalists in their communities, learn directly from teachers rather than relying on books, and walk the trails on the surrounding land meeting the herbs in person. There were many kids attending and we heard from parents and the kids themselves that they couldn't wait to come back next year! There was amazing energy from everyone, the food was delicious and the marketplace was loaded with fantastic herbal creations.
In 2020, we made the difficult but necessary decision to host a virtual event instead of a physical gathering for the safety of everyone. We offered a weekend of free classes to herbalists who tuned in from around the world. Even though we were apart, we were able to profoundly connect and it was beautiful! We're eagerly awaiting the day when we can once again gather in person. Until then, we hope you'll be able to join us from the safety of your own home for the 2021 Great Lakes Herb Faire!
See you soon!
